Certes l’espace acoustique d’aujourd’hui n’est sans doute pas plus sonore que celui d’hier, mais la grande différence réside dans l’art consommé que l’homme a eu, depuis plus d’un siècle, à vouloir en fixer la trace. Parallèlement à cette capacité sans cesse décuplée, son éternelle envie d’aller voir derrière le son ce qui se passe a engendré une nouvelle manière de composer, construite autour de cette captation et augmentée par la puissance de la technologie. De la musique concrète au field recording en passant par l’art radiophonique, toutes ces manières de faire se retrouvent aujourd’hui dans ce qu’il est convenu de nommer le « hörspiel » et qui reste l’objet musical à la fois le plus identifié et le plus flou dans ses limites. Pour sa neuvième édition, le concours biennal Luc Ferrari propose donc aux candidats de renouer, dans la plus grande liberté, avec cette forme inventive de composition qui autorise tout autant la narration que l’abstraction, le geste le plus minimaliste que la forme luxuriante. Les projets devront donc s’inscrire dans cette filiation tout en en restant libre d’en repousser les limites.

its International Radio brodcasted Arts Competition Luc Ferrari.

Without a doubt, the acoustic space of today is not more full of sound than that of yesterday. However, the main difference lies in the consummate art of which people have, for more than a century, wanted to capture the trace. In parallel to this endlessly growing capacity, the everlasting drive to check what is behind the sound yields a new way of composing, built around this capture and increased by the power of technology. From concrete music to field recording, passing through radiophonic art, all these different ways are included in what is now commonly called “hörspiel,” which remains the musical object the most identifiable while at the same time blurriest within its limits.
The 9th anniversary of the Luc Ferrari Competition therefore proposes the candidates to reexplore, with maximum freedom, this inventive form of composition which allows narration as much as abstraction, and the most minimalistic gesture as much as luxuriant form. The projects must therefore keep in mind the framework of this form while remaining free to push its limits.
